APPLE LEAVES

Every time the apple leaves
The dog feels worse
Worse for the fact he is alone
Worse for the time he has to himself
And worse for knowing it will happen again and again
When he pleaded one Sunday
For the apple to stay
The apple was not convinced:

Any apple does as any apple does
And by the red of my skin
I know it is right
And as you are not an apple
You know less of an apple
Than I know a pear
And as my friend
You know less of me
Than your brother
As my confidant
I know less of you
Than my fellow apple
And as my home
When I've returned
And I've changed again
Again you won't know
And then I'll leave
And again it won't matter
As nothing will change for us
And as us
We will stay the same
