The cat and dog were alone in the forest.
The cat decided to head north.
The dog asking, "why that way?" soon fell silent.
"I won't explain myself, as I can't yet,"
Snarled the cat.
He left and the dog followed.
"We've been left here for a reason that may not come to light. But I'm not sure if that should discourage us from our path."
The dog looked ahead and the cat continued.
"It's as if we are here together, but I know you to well for that."
The dog was uncomfortable.
"I think it's best to pretend we know what we want to do and act accordingly. You see, it's not that we haven't a choice, it's that it doesn't matter."
The dog began to lose interest.
"As we've found me to be, for all extensive purposes, the smarter of the group, I think you will do well to join me."
The dog looked ahead.
"It's not that I've thought much of this, it is just clear, and clearer to me now as I speak. Speech from one such as me can lead to many things, some trivial, some other. It's not that we should worry, what's there in that?"
The dog pretended to think.
"I won't say this is the first time I've been here, that could be no help. It's not really strange, all of it, strange is nothing to me. I'm sure you've been somewhere and felt a certain way and certain of why, but these moments pass, as do mine. I don't pretend to know the nature of moments, as I am not a participant, but we can all say one thing or another."
The dog walked, he seemed encouraged.
"Of things I know, I know the least of relationships; they are a funny course, though possibly only to me. Of course it is no concern to me if I am supported by scripture or nature, I cannot maintain the ideas of others. We are all convoluted. Not that I know you think the same, but I assume you do. It's not that we know each other well, but we have known each other at one time or another. I assure you there is no one I would rather be here with."
The dog mustered affection.
"Oh, there are other places I could be, but you'll do fine for here. There are some things to discuss, maybe it's not appropriate now, but we can't postpone forever. I've meant to tell you before that I have great admiration for you. I have somewhat of an admiration for all things. To be a thing is to be something and there is nothing besides that. One cannot will admiration unless they choose to, and I've heard that said before."
